About BUCK:

BUCK is a talent-driven, global creative company with offices in Los Angeles, New York, Sydney, London and Amsterdam. Since 2004 we have been building a home for the world’s most talented dreamers, makers, and doers in a collaborative, ego-free culture that breeds partnership and creative ambition. At our core, we exist to find creative opportunities in every challenge, not just to think, but to make, and ultimately put extraordinary things into the world that inspire people.

Job Description:

At BUCK, we realize that there is nothing more powerful than someone willing to learn and grow in order to hone their craft. This is why BUCK is looking for talented and driven people to join teams across our many departments as an Apprentice. Apprentices are considered to be a valuable part of our team and process. In fact, 35% of our current team first joined us as an apprentice; we now have Department Heads and Group Creative Directors who have had their entire career at BUCK. The ideal candidate is someone with some professional experience, but more importantly, we are looking for those who are curious and willing to learn. This opportunity is best suited for recent graduates, self-taught artists, and anyone in between.

As a Post Apprentice, you will work alongside our editors, finishing artists, and technical team, learning how picture and sound come together from early editorial through final delivery. You will support active projects while developing your creative judgment, technical knowledge, and organizational skills.

We’re looking for someone curious about both storytelling and the processes behind a finished piece. You might enjoy finding the right cut, organizing a project, refining an image, or figuring out how a tool works. This apprenticeship offers room to explore those interests with guidance from the team.

What we can expect from you:

Commitment & Location:

  • Six-month, full-time apprenticeship.

  • Candidates must live within a commutable distance from the LA or NY BUCK office locations and be able to be on-site for the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with your assigned mentor to set learning goals, practice new skills, and apply feedback.

  • Assist with project setup, footage ingest, media organization, and asset tracking using established naming conventions and folder structures.

  • Support editors with footage selects, assemblies, reference gathering, music and sound searches, and revisions.

  • Help prepare timelines and assets for handoffs between editorial, animation, sound, color, and finishing.

  • Assist with review exports, alternate versions, and file preparation under the team’s guidance.

  • Learn to check picture, sound, titles, timing, and file specifications, and flag issues for review.

  • Participate in team discussions and reviews. Ask questions, share discoveries, and communicate your progress.

Requirements:

  • Some experience making or editing moving-image work through coursework, personal projects, freelance work, or another relevant setting.

  • An interest in storytelling, rhythm, pacing, and the relationship between picture and sound.

  • Care with organization and details, along with a willingness to learn consistent working practices.

  • The ability to take direction, respond to feedback, and communicate when you need help.

  • Curiosity about the creative and technical sides of post production. You do not need to arrive with a specialty.

Skills and Software knowledge we look for:

  • Basic familiarity with Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, including working with timelines and exporting video.

  • An interest in learning media management, frame rates, resolutions, aspect ratios, codecs, and color fundamentals.

  • Experience with After Effects or Photoshop is welcome.

  • Interest in color, finishing, audio, scripting, or workflow tools is a plus. Prior experience in these areas is not required.

What you can expect from us:

  • An assigned mentor to guide your learning and help you set goals.

  • Hands-on experience supporting projects alongside editors, finishing artists, and technical specialists.

  • Exposure to editorial, finishing, quality control, and delivery, with opportunities to explore your interests as project needs allow.

  • Regular feedback, check-ins, and a formal midpoint review.

  • Apprentices who excel may be considered for conversion to a staff role at the end of the program. Conversion is not guaranteed.

When applying, keep in mind:

  • Share a reel or a few projects that show your interests and current abilities. Student, personal, and collaborative work are welcome.

  • Tell us what you contributed to each project and which tools you used. We’re interested in your decisions and process as well as the finished work.

  • Make sure your links work and include any required viewing passwords.

Due to the amount of applications we receive, you might not hear back right away, and it’s difficult to provide individual feedback for everyone. We’ll reach out to you if this is a good fit!

Compensation:

  • $22.60/hr USD, non-exempt (Overtime eligible)

  • Benefits: PTO, Paid Holidays, Paid sick leave, Health Insurance
